What a day.  I’m way over the 24 hour mark here at the office, and suddenly i just looked around and realized i’m the only one left… besides for a sketchy camera dude snoring on our couch.

The designers JUST left.  I cannot believe how efficiently we worked in completing all aspects of todays tasks.  Thank god I can communicate via keyboard right now because i have absolutely no voice left.

Any minute now, Jess & Nikki who left at around 1:30 or so are going to be trickling their way back into the office to take the deliverables that the design team passed off and get those ready for launch.  Now that we have all the assets and all the major decisions have been made its about packaging up all the specs we’ve defined, writing copy, getting email launch blasts teed up, doing pricing / threshold research & diligence,  loading it all up on the site, and getting everything ready for a simulateous push at 9am.

Also, mike lacy will have to get back here pretty soon and remove the QNQ banners / bumpers so people aren’t confused.

All systems are looking like a go at this point.  I am beyond beat but must see this thing through to the end.

I have to say that we really accomplished something really great here on many levels.   I think the product turned out phenomenally from a design & function standpoint given the idea that was chosen… I feel that the community influence & contributions were HUGE and the single biggest driver of us being able to do what we did today.

Another product will be launched shortly, excited to see how it performs in pre-sales.  I encourage all of you to share your thoughts on today, like we have come to expect. :)

Ok, i think i’m rambling. So.

    rock.

    hello quirks -

so we promised updated and additional renders of the kickster (you remember, the awesomely cool, multi-functional ipod case that we made in 24 hours). Kickster

We’ve got these up now and our apologies for the delay! View these 6 new renders on kickster’s product page. We’ve pre-sold 59/300 of these so far. Lots of influence still up for grabs.

Are we gonna move this product into manufacturing  too? You tell us! Commit now…$14.35 in pre-sales.

As we always do when a product moves into manufacturing – it’s time to hear a few words from Jeff Scholen the original ideator of our cord wrap for Apple’s MagSafe Power adaptor. Below is an interview with Jeff:

    1. When did you think of the idea for the PowerCurl?

I bought my first Mac in May of this year. I hated the cord from the start and got to thinking about how it could be improved to make it slimmer so that it could fit into my laptop bag.

    2. Had you tried to make this thing on your own already?

    jeff scholen

I doodled sketches of how the idea could work, but never finalized it.

    3. what do you do? (job-wise, ya know, when you are not on quirky)

I am an engineer for a medical device company

    4. where are you from?

    Atlanta

    5. who/where do you derive your creative inspiration from?

Who: I believe all good things (including my creative ideas) come from God.
Where: I am a vacuum for information. Every so often, 2 or 3 pieces of information will clash and an idea will pop into my head.

    6. What do you wish quirky had that it does not already?

It would be nice to have a count of units sold/earnings online after pre-sale is done. It would help to motivate myself and others to submit more ideas. I’d also like a description of what people do to gain influence listed online to better understand the process.

    7. What store would you love to see PowerCurl in?

    Apple or apple.com of course!

    8. What is your favorite deli meat? What is your favorite cereal?

Roast beef is my favorite, but I don’t eat it much. Turkey is better for me. Cereals come and go, but Cheerios is a classic.

Well, it’s just about 5:45 pm here at the quirky HQ and we have already sold 650 units of the PowerCurl. That’s absolutely insane. You all rock.

Thanks for your support and enthusiasm this week as we hit threshold on two products (remember Scratch-n-Scroll hit threshold earlier this week) and had our first crazy quick & quirky event.

Split Stick, DigiDudes and other updates will be coming again very soon! Hit us over the weekend if you have any questions…we’ll be here!

We literally just sold over 200 units of the PowerCurl in just over an hour. This thing is HOT.

PowerCurl hit the online store yesterday at 10:30 am and well, now it’s 10:30 am and we have already hit threshold. Fastest quirky product to hit pre-sales yet.

    PowerCurl off to manufacturing

Good thing is …. you can still buy it at the low price of $9.99

Wow, we are seriously impressed and HAPPY over here at the quirky HQ. Those sleepless 38 hours have paid off.

Another quirky product off to manufacturing! Thanks to all our influencers!

Yes, we know, one product in 24 hours seemed crazy enough. But never put it past the quirky to accomplish the seemingly impossible. We are happy to announce the launch of Kickster as well.

quirky’s kickster is an awesomely new case designed by the quirky community and apple enthusiasts worldwide within 24 hours of apple’s announcement of the 5th generation iPod nano. We designed this scratch resistant case with the maximum combination of beauty and function.

kicksterThis case maintains a slim profile while adding a ton of functionality. We’re talking: hard plastic exterior, cord wrap, shock-resistant silicone core, as well as full body and screen protection.

Oh, but that’s only half of it. This case comes packed with a hand steadying video grip that transforms into vertical and horizontal kickstands. For more product specific details, check out the product’s page.

Also, please be kind: our render farm had a technical glitch circa 5 am this morning so there are currently only low resolution renders. We don’t have all the views we wanted to show you, but keeping to our promise, we have launched this product. We will be updating the images throughout the day. What we can promise you now, is this thing will be fantastic!

    Commit to pre-sales now!

Promises have been kept, or rather, exceeded. We did it – with the help of the quirky community who submitted 1106 individual contributions, we developed two products in 24 hours.

The first one is the Power Curl: a clip on cord wrap for Apple’s 60W and 85W MagSafe Power Adapter in just 24 hours. PowerCurl wraps both cords (plug end & MagSafe end) around the device and allows for easy and quick cord wrapping. The Curl, as we like to call it, makes it easy to unplug and pack up quickly without having to untangle your extension cords the next time you need to set you shop.

Power CurlThe included Curl clip enables the plug end of your cord to clip to itself just like your MagSafe end does.

Fear those heated power adapters no more – PowerCurl elevates the power adapter off the ground or desk for better air circulation and cooling.

Oh and we can’t forget to mention – we’ve quirkified this thing – it’s bright orange, super lightweight and dead sexy. You will be able to choose the 60W or 85W model prior to device shipping.

Come on and commit to this thing…its only $7.25 in pre-sales. And as always, you’ll earn influence for committing early. Wahoooo!

    Hey quirks,

We just realized that a false notification went out about an evaluation project that did not exist. This was a result of us transferring the second place winner into a brand new project. We apologize and will do our best to ensure this never happens again.

    Thanks all!

We had an amazing amount of community participation for our 1st quick & quirky event. Over 80 ideas were submitted for the ultimate apple accessory.

The winning idea was the Matthew Toghill’s stand case for the new ipod nano. Thing is, there was a kick-ass runner up product that the entire quirky in house industrial design and engineering team wanted to move forward with as well.

    quick & quirky

So what did we decide to do? We couldn’t simply let Jeff Scholen’s cord wrap idea that go so much love remain just another gadget we wish we had…So we got on phone and called Jeff himself. We asked if we could move forward with his product even though it was second place. He was pumped to let us developed his product too.

So alas, we got a little quirky ourselves here…we’re making 2 products instead of 1!

The case for the new nano will launch tomorrow by 12:45 pm as promised and we will get the cord wrap to the online store as soon as possible as well.

Red bull is on its way to our office…stay up with us everyone…time to submit names for both these products while our designers and engineers are concepting these products away.
