People keep a spectrum of pets in their homes, from the familiar (cats and dogs) to the exotic (lizards and monkeys). Each animal has its unique set of needs. Some of these needs are addressed by products on the market, but not all. We think there’s space to improve on existing pet care items and create new ones that improve your pets’ quality of life. Let’s find better ways to keep pets happy and healthy in all circumstances.
This week’s brief is about maintaining the well-being of your pets.
The first thing to think about is the animal’s natural environment. They wouldn’t usually own a house or rent an apartment! What parts of their home in nature could be integrated into your home, to make them more comfortable? In the case of dogs and cats, who have been domesticated for centuries, look to their daily behavior. Where are they happiest? Can a product recreate that experience for them?
Things like climate change, noise levels, and amount of open space matter. What are things that pet owners have to do, when those factors are not ideal for the animal? How could a product help with that? You might also find inspiration in situations that arise. There are regular routines like grooming or finding a place for them to rest that could be improved. Also think about current solutions to transporting them for travel, helping them acclimate to new places when you’ve moved, or getting them used to your schedule changes. These things can be stressful. Maybe we can make something that would help.
Your environment matters too. Are there any products that you wish fit better into your home decor, or make both you and your pet a lot more comfortable?
That’s just to get you started, keep going beyond those points. You’re the experts in what your pets need, and what’s already out there. Remember, we want to create something new to the world. Tell us what you’ve always wanted to take care of your pets.
For this round, we will be focused on general well-being. So no toys or fashion accessories, unless they offer a value beyond playtime. As always, DMV (design potential, marketability and viability) factors heavily into our decision.
You can submit one idea for free, and the deadline is Mon, June 27, at noon ET. “Care” to wow us? Submit now.
