Prophecy has foretold that on Monday afternoon the top five voted submissions from the previous week’s Community Evaluation would reveal themselves in the form of a blog post. If not listed, submissions in these rounds may still be chosen as Wildcard selections.

Hey Quirks, we’re discussing three topics in Wednesday’s live brainstorm.

From 12:00 – (approx.) 1:15, the Quirky Community, will have the opportunity to participate in this week’s brainstorm through our Quirky Design Staff + Quirky Community Brainstorm Livestream channel on Ustream.

    This week’s topics are:

    1) Product 175: Silicone Trivets

    2) Outdoor Gardening Brief (Product 176): Collapsible Watering Can

    3) Product 183: 3D Measuring Box

To get the most community participation, we’re going to start it right here, in the comments of this blog post. Think about all of the different aspects that go into mindmapping, i.e. exploring all opportunities in terms of design, market, end user, user scenarios, modes/habits, current/future trends in food service or space saving products, materials etc. Start throwing out ideas and remember, this is a brainstorm so anything goes.

Expanse is an expandable utensil holder that only takes up as much counter space as you need it to. Stop jamming your cooking tools into a container that’s too small. Expanse’s unique sliding mechanism lets you choose the exact amount of space you need, while the plastic divider helps to make sure you can keep track of your smaller utensils.

Nick LaPoulas proposed a utensil holder that gives you more storage space when you need it, and more counter space when you don’t. Over 990 people came together to develop that idea into a product. Expanse is now available in the Quirky shop for $15.99 presale ($19.99 retail) with a threshold of 1200 commitments.

    Features:
    – Stainless steel container
    – Removable divider
    – Small footprint
    – Easy to clean

    Dimensions:

    Fully Closed:
    8.5″ x 4.5″ x 6″

    Fully Opened:
    13″ x 4.5″ x 6″

This week’s brainstorm post is going to do double duty. First up we’re got the results from our last brainstorm.

After the live brainstorm last Wednesday, QDS intern Lucas transcribed the mind maps co-created by QDS and the Quirky Community.

Here’s what last week’s brainstorm looks like (click images to enlarge):

    Product 171: BBQ Oil Brush

    Product 172: Hanging Step Stool

The entire brainstorm is embedded below (in two parts).

This week we’ve got one topic to discuss.

From 12:00 – (approx.) 12:30, the Quirky Community, will have the opportunity to participate in this week’s brainstorm through our Quirky Design Staff + Quirky Community Brainstorm Livestream channel on Ustream.

    This week’s topic is:

To try and maximize the amount of community participation in the conversation, we’re going to start it right here, in the comments of this blog post. As you might (or should) be aware, we’ve historically had a few restrictions in place regarding what’s considered a feasible idea.

In order to be considered within our scope, an idea had to:

    1) Be for a physical consumer product
    2) Be able to retail for $150 or less
    3) Not include any integrated software

With everything going on right now, it’s the perfect time to revisit those restrictions and make a few changes.

    Starting today there’s only one:

In order to be considered within our scope, a product idea has to be for a physical consumer product.

Thats it. No more $150. No more limits on software and applications as long as they are submitted in conjunction with a physical consumer product (ie. we won’t consider an iPhone app, but we will consider an iPhone).

This change is taking effect immediately, so start thinking big!
