We’ve been talking about lots of new features / initiatives for a while now at Quirky, and while there is progress being made on all fronts- we have been hearing that you (the community) are feeling as though we are slow to deliver on iterations on the platform.

Quirky’s technology team is one of the smallest departments here at Quirky.  This is something we are working hard on changing (by recruiting great developers)- but for now, it’s sort of a fact of life.

So we’re asking for your help.   We’ve compiled a list of all of the changes/initiatives we have AGREED on taking on, and we are asking for your help prioritizing them.

We’re going to provide complete visibility into our technology pipeline- things that have recently been completed, thing in progress, and then a running queue (which you can affect the order of) as to what’s coming next

Today we’re launching quirky.com/next. We hope you’ll help us help you and make quirky a better and more productive place.

Did we miss something?   Get in touch with us, and if accepted we’ll add it to the queue for voting.

I’m thrilled & humbled to announce that John Maeda, the President of Rhode Island School Of Design, Author  of The Laws of Simplicity, MIT Media labber and all around amazing Design Thinker has joined Quirky’s Board of Directors.

John is one of the most respected and influential dudes in the design world, and we’re excited to have him teach us, guide us, and help us build Quirky.

To give you a taste of some of the endless supply of  John Maeda’s wisdom and knowledge… Here’s a recent talk he gave at Behance’s 99% Conference.

Please join me in welcoming John to the Board!

A few weeks ago, during a Community Q&A, I addressed our plans for scaling the business and improving some of our existing processes.

Two of the most crucial processes we have in place at Quirky are Product Evaluation and Presale.

Both of these processes together have delivered us amazing new products and inventors over the course of the past year and a half… but we agree… the process could be more fun, more collaborative, and deliver better results.

It’s time we take a holistic view at improving both of them. We’ve assembled an amazing group of people to help us make Quirky a better place.

Each task force is made up of relevant community members and Quirky staff.

I won’t be participating in the task forces, because I want to make sure that the groups have full creative control to imagine crazy things and define what the different options might be. I’ll jump in towards the end and help narrow things down.

I’m really excited to see where this goes. Below are the presentations that will kick off the process.

All of our task force members will be briefed and invited into a project management app in the next few hours.

    Pumped!

This is perhaps one of the most important hires we will make all year. We’d really appreciate everyone’s help in filling this position with someone super awesome.

It’s with an amazing amount of excitement that we can now unveil…

Quirky and HSN have partnered to bring the world a monthly show dedicated to selling Quirky community created products.

As the title suggests, our first show will be on January 29th at 9am, we’ll be on again that night (Jan 30th, at 2am) — and then every month thereafter.

I can say that so far, our experiences with HSN have been nothing short of phenomenal. The entire HSN organization from the CEO all the way down are inspired by what we have achieved as a community, and are optimistic about the potential that the partnership holds. So good job, dudes.

More detail and promotion will start to trickle out in the next 2-3 weeks. Until then, start telling your friends, getting excited, and continuing to develop awesome solution-oriented products.

Oh, and don’t give me that ‘I set my DVR’ bullshit. You gotta watch this thing live. And oh, definitely buy stuff and have your friends and family buy stuff. The more we sell, the more they’ll buy next time — and you know what that means.

Wahooooo!!! Congratulations everyone. As I said in the fluffy press release… I’m PUMPED.

The members of the community who were at the Quirky Summit asked for a weekly digest/explanation of how we made our evaluation decisions every week. Enjoy this short explanation of how 78/79 were selected. We’re still working on perfecting the format for this — next week’s will be better, but this is certainly a start!

Longtime friend, and fellow Ben, Ben Machado spent a day or so capturing the madness that occurs at Quirky HQ.

Captured last Friday, this is a true glimpse into the madness of the Quirky Hive.

Mucho Props to Mr. Machado for this video – what a talented dude.
