Jack Tucker is an 11 year old 6th grade student from New York. His whiteboard ruler idea came to him while he was doing his homework and had to measure the distances between states on a map. It started to get annoying and confusing when he had to remember what the measurements were and he wished that he could write on the ruler and then transfer the measurements over to the smaller scale. However, he did not want to ruin the ruler. His solution to the problem was a whiteboard ruler. This solution allows for someone to write directly on the ruler without ruining it and without getting confused later on. Jack’s dad, Matt, submitted the idea for him.

Quirky was really impressed with the straightforward and simple solution, especially since there is nothing quite like it already on the market. Design thought that dry erase markers erase very easily so they are going to explore other options. Everyone on the design team could relate to doing work in the shop and needing a solution for either remembering measurements or transferring more complicated measurements again and again. Market felt that the product could be taken to hardware stores and school supply stores along with other applicable retailers. Viability felt that we already have the vendors set up to produce this product. Also, the submission idea appears to be primarily public domain from a patent perspective.  It was received well by the Quirky staff, and we are excited to start working on it.
