Quirky is all about making invention accessible and ensuring that ideas are judged on a level playing field. With this in mind, we’ve switched the default view of evaluation rounds to show the “Random” sort, instead of “Most Popular”. From now on, everyone who clicks into an open product evaluation round will see a different assortment of ideas, which will change for each individual login.
Our other sorting options, like Most Popular and Most Comments, are still available via the drop down menu. We know that everyone has their own particular way of filtering, browsing, and narrowing down ideas, and we don’t want to mess with that. We just want to help you evaluate ideas based on their merits, so you can help us make good product decisions.
Speaking of which, we need you to tell us what the next great product should be. So log in, jump into our two eval rounds and tell us what to make!

I would like them to remove the most popular and most comments from the search function and this way people will vote for what they like and not follow the crowd……Sure they can still look trough all the submissions to see what has the most comments, so let them search:}
Those two search options feed the Gamers….Don’t you think?

I totally agree with Ken. Changing which filter is defaulted is not going to help. If you want an honest opinion as to what people believe is a good product for Quirky to produce, you need to REMOVE the “Most Popular” and “Most Comments” filters. Neither one gives you the ability to filter by anything that helps you make a non-biased opinion. What I would love to see is a series of checkboxes we can use in each submission that we can click on or not, that will help us filter out submissions we know we will not vote for. Even something like a 1 – 5, 1 being ‘no way’ and 5 being ‘love it’. Then be able to organize the submissions, using the filter, by how many stars it has. Most likely, there will be submissions that we feel have promise but need work. Those I would rank as, maybe a 3. I would most likely go back as some point and give suggestions to some of those so that they might be ones I would rank as a 4 or 5 later.

Just watched the video for 087 eval and have to say all the time and energy spent on Top 5 (not to mention the lack of focus on the other 100+) is so frustrating to listen to! I’d love to see comments only (no comment counting), and the kind of thumb up/down sorting tool Andrew suggests. No “popular.” And Random Sort, à la namethis.
I think the whole process would be improved vastly if users were encouraged to follow their actual interests and intuitions rather than take advantage of the time-saving shortcuts Quirky is currently providing.
