The members of the community who were at the Quirky Summit asked for a weekly digest/explanation of how we made our evaluation decisions every week. Enjoy this short explanation of how 78/79 were selected. We’re still working on perfecting the format for this — next week’s will be better, but this is certainly a start!

Very helpful! I look forward to seeing this every week. This does take the mystery out of the selections. Thank you!
PS- You should be getting something from Diet Coke for product placement.

Big props. Watching it I felt like instead of the Matchbox car we asked for we got KITT. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

You guys are freaking awesome. Thank you!

We’re not going to stop getting better, and folding in your suggestions.
I hope that those who get and trust that help explain quirky’s agility and commitment to change to those who haven’t yet seen / experienced it first hand.
THANK YOU guys. I think this is a great idea / format and it was totally born out of last weeks conversation.

Thank you very much for this great tool. I look forward to seeing these at the end of each submission week. Excellent job and keep up the awesome work.

I love this because it educates us as to why Quirky like some things over other and give direction for future ideas. Thanks for taking the time and I know the ideas your get back in the next rounds will be better for it.

Fascinating to see what I was thinking (that products were often picked largely to round out product “holes” or develop niches) is true.
Could we have more of this kind of communication, only BEFORE voting? Or (I know, we’ve been here before…) two-phase voting. Hearing QS’s rationales — for crowd faves and wild cards — would be hugely helpful to us Quirks. We spin our wheels debating concepts that, for one reason or another, QS would never consider. I’d so much rather see everyone’s time, energy, and intellectual capital spent on products whose design, marketability, and viability meet Quirky standards. It would make us better collaborators.
Thanks for the enlightening video.

Stalias,
We heard echos of similar requests at the summit.
I’m trying to figure out a way we can test that out- but no promises yet– this is a step in the right direction, though.

HUGE leap in communication! Thrilled with the openness. When ideators really understand the process, better ideas will be born. Looking forward to the weekly wrap-up!

Gaz, Gaz, Gaz, you promised no plaid shirts on days you are filming.

Outstanding, Gentlemen!
…That was extremely useful.
I agree wholeheartedly with MichelleB’s comment above… I think these post-eval rundowns are a great step forward in improving the Quirky process. Appreciate the extra time dedication on your part — Thank you.

@Ben — Yay.
Gaz | 12/13/2010 9:48 AM
AMP, I know, i’m sorry! Maybe instead of promising, I should of actually said, “I HOPE to not wear plaid shirts on days we are filming”…

Good job, this way of explaining the things works great!

I just learned more about Quirky in 17 minutes than I learned the entire first week I spent navigating the website. Keep up the great work, I can’t wait to see the next one!

Love the mock-ups and audio visual feed back. It really helps bring us into the quirky environment in a fun and tangible way without having to sit next to Clinton…KaKUKUKUKUKUK!

I can’t tell you how useful this was. It could even be a bit shorter (if you wanted to) and don’t worry about production values. Just look at Diggnation…you guys could do a weekly a vlog.
Daniel Schier | 12/13/2010 6:43 PM
Such a great idea to do the follow through-thanks!!
Jim Young | 12/14/2010 4:55 PM
This is awesome. I’m glad you’ve made the time for this. It’s both insightful and entertaining too.

I like the video. Can’t wait to see more
