Starting today, there will no longer be rating for Industrial Design, Naming, Tagline, Logo, and other non-evaluation projects.
This change will go into effect after the Product 61 naming project closes out.
You will still be able to rate ideas in Product Evaluation phase — and you’re encouraged to!
There are a couple of reasons why we’re making this change for non-eval projects:
- As many of you have told us (quite loudly!) rating for these projects was a major time-suck, especially as the number of submissions continues to grow.
- Because fewer people were rating, we weren’t receiving as much useful, conclusive data.
- We want you to be able to focus your efforts on finding and pushing forward the best names and taglines through your votes.
That’s all, folks! Feel free to hit us back with questions and comments on our community-powered support forum powered by Get Satisfaction.

Awesome, guys, thanks for the feedback.

In away it is good because it was very tiresome, however no more influence for doing it which saddens me:{ Will there be more influence for voting or for voting for the winner?
Stuart Carey | 10/29/2010 1:46 PM
I’m happy with this change as long as the influence that was going to people who rated now goes to those who vote for the winners as Ken points out.
jess | 10/29/2010 1:59 PM
Yup, it will. It’ll be a 75-25 split between the person who had the idea and the people who voted for it.

Quirky learns, changes, improves and grows.
Could you please teach government how that is done?
You are a breathe of fresh air in a polluted world…

Sweet! Two thumbs up!

I won’t miss the time suck. I will miss the pieces of influence that I was accumulating.
Maria | 10/29/2010 5:17 PM
PattiD, I agree. I rarely vote for the winning submissions and that is how I accumulated my little bit of influence :/
On the other hand, this is a great incentive to think up even better submissions and to focus our energy and time to really find the ones we think are the best! This might be a good change in many ways

If I had three thumbs, they would all be up.

If there is no influence for rating, then will the slack be taken up by influence for comments? I don’t know how many times I’ve changed my votes for a 2nd instance of a submission only to have the first submission win. no influence there, but I did get a small amount for rating. If I can’t hit the voting crapshoot, and no influence for rating, then what am I doing here?
Boyd | 10/29/2010 6:36 PM
Awesome! I was going to give up on rating names/taglines.
How about giving us 5 votes instead of 3 for product evaluation rounds? If you are looking for the top 5 products, then should we be able to cast 5 votes? Then people can vote for things with the most comments/buzz, and still have the opportunity to use a couple votes on other viable products that get lost in the shuffle.

Boyd that is a great question I thought about that myself,,,
Stalias | 10/31/2010 12:52 AM
Boyd, Ken…agreed. I’d still like the thumbs up/down option, but rating was a major snoozer. Never thought I’d say this, but I kinda miss the namethis days when we could distribute 30 points as we wished (all on one or some on several).

It’d sure be nice to have that thumbs up thumbs down button….this way we can at least keep the top ideas on the table until the end and not search for ones we thought had potential. I used ratings for this and it worked great as well as giving a bit on influence but now I have found I switched from the winning ideas at least 3 times so far because you cannot compare easily. Decay is not a good thing.
