Good news: We’ve gone ahead and given the green light for production to begin on Cloak.
As you can see here (in our July 4th weekend edition), the top cover now looks extremely gorgeous (just as we imagined it).
So where do we go from here?
1. You’ll receive an email from Quirky on Tuesday, requesting that you complete your order & choose your color. Remember: Your Cloak order is not complete until you return to the site & confirm your order.
2. We’ll be kicking out roughly a thousand units a day starting on July 3rd. We’ll have to prioritize color runs to be efficient. We’ll be producing Black first, then Pink, then Blue, then Green. Keep this in mind when you complete your orders (as this is the order in which the Cloaks will ship).
3. Exact shipment dates will be determined by the time you receive the confirmation email next Tuesday, but we still believe we will be able to ship most colors (perhaps not green) prior to July 15th. Blacks may be able to start shipping as early as next Friday.
Any questions? You know where to reach us. We’re excited about wrapping up this project and getting this awesome product in your hands.

Great news ! EVen if the green will be the last to be in production, I’ll wait for it. Great job to all the partners in the deveolpment of it.

I think I just peed a little!! I’m so excited!
jess | 07/01/2010 12:10 PM
@Bikr: TMI!
scartier | 07/01/2010 1:22 PM
Excellent! I’ll be waiting for a green one as well, although I like the two-tone idea from the photo. Perhaps a green/black one is possible?
Joshua | 07/01/2010 1:43 PM
How sweet it is! So glad I have patience
MacRumorUser | 07/01/2010 4:22 PM
Fantastic news guys. Can’t wait.
dreamwave6 | 07/01/2010 5:57 PM
Awesome! Amy possibility that we can get the 4th of July version (Blue body with Red cover)?
ben kaufman | 07/01/2010 5:58 PM
Nope, we find the July 4th edition fugly… sorry
ToxicKitty | 07/01/2010 6:41 PM
Sure doesn’t look like the original artist renditions.
awgraham | 07/01/2010 6:43 PM
Can we see more photos of the finished product in each of the four colors before making a color choice?
ariem | 07/01/2010 8:38 PM
waiting for green
Cobrastrike | 07/01/2010 9:48 PM
Agree with awgraham… Would be nice to have a page showing what the production colours really look like before selecting. Especially for those of us waiting for green!
MCFA | 07/01/2010 10:31 PM
I just ordered mine! I can’t wait. Where do I go exactly and confirm my order? I can’t seem to find the place to do this?
Sweet-P | 07/01/2010 10:56 PM
Oooooo…I can’t wait. I’ve been wrapping my iPad in plastic just to keep it from getting scratched until I get my Quirky Cloak…I didn’t want to purchase any other case.
I kinda like the red and blue….looks like a cute child’s cover.
But I will order the pink. Thanks for keeping us informed. I believe it’s going to be worth all the waiting.
ToxicKitty | 07/02/2010 12:05 PM
I assume the hinges that now show white and black will be color coordinated in the final product. If not, a white hinge on a black cover will stick out like a sore thumb. Why are there so many different colors? White, black, blue, red…..it’s just ugly.
ben kaufman | 07/02/2010 12:06 PM
I know! so ugly right!
Ryan | 07/02/2010 12:18 PM
Nice work guys! But could u post some more pictures of the final product?
More specifically the underside of the top cover to show how the stands look when they are folded down
tony | 07/02/2010 12:29 PM
Can I order mine in the Superman color-scheme shown?
ben kaufman | 07/02/2010 12:31 PM
no, we discontinued it because @toxicKitty things its just ugly.
lenow | 07/02/2010 12:45 PM
Thanks for the update. I am eager to get the final product. I may order black, but may wait for green. I love the way this whole thing has been marketed, keeping the process so open and transparent. I am just hoping that the final product will fit inside my Waterfield Exo case.
Paul Hsieh | 07/02/2010 2:29 PM
Awesome…
I will settle for black just to get my hand on the first bunch… but also Black is good for not attracting thief… and not showy…
ToxicKitty | 07/02/2010 3:14 PM
Well it’s not so much the red and blue that makes it ugly……it’s more the black and white hinge. And it’s not so much ugly as cheap. If the black case has that cheap looking white hinge on it, that would be a deal killer for a lot of people, ToxicKitty included.
sidney | 07/04/2010 2:01 AM
Ben, I’ll definitely be ordering mine in pink (gotta be girly!) but can you answer the question raised here a few times about the color of the hinges? Are they really white? (hope not) I’m sure everyone, like me, is hoping they match the color of the Cloak.
Todd | 07/04/2010 8:34 PM
I only regret that I will be leaving on a big business trip for ten days on 16 July and won’t have the cloak!!!
Richard | 07/04/2010 10:58 PM
I too hope the hinge color matches the color you order. If not I probably will not confirm my order. Please let us know about hinge color!
jaymiec | 07/05/2010 3:42 AM
I am quite excited! Although I concur with the majority of posters; white hinges would be a deal-breaker. Fingers crossed for colour-coded.
jess | 07/05/2010 11:58 AM
The color of the hinges will coordinate with the color of the product — charcoal hinges with the black case, dark green with olive, white with blue, and dark pink with light pink.
We’ll be posting updated renders shortly!
Takeo | 07/05/2010 12:31 PM
Looks awesome. If you ever release a revised version I would love to see the hinge re-enginnered to be half it’s current size. It’s kinda huge and adds a lot of bulk. Would also be nice if it could be put on a diet. 1 pound is too heavy. That almost doubles the weight of the iPad. I would also kill the portrait stand. That position is a fringe case usage scenario.
MimiH | 07/05/2010 12:59 PM
I would really like to know the weight of the final production model.
GizmoTX | 07/06/2010 12:16 AM
I’m using a Marware Eco-view while I wait for the Cloak. It weighs 1 pound, which is the maximum I’d want any case to be. Lighter is obviously better, but only if overall function or strength is not compromised. The Eco-vue does not have a portrait stand, which I’d like to have for hands-free reading, so I’m pleased that the Cloak will have one & hoping it will not contact the screen. It has a horizontal typing stand, similar to what the Cloak is supposed to have, but no way to prop the iPad up higher for viewing.
So, I’m still impressed with what the Cloak appears to offer. I was going to pick the blue color, but not if it has white hinges.
Leslie | 07/06/2010 1:45 PM
I’m glad its finally in production. Two things…
1. I received the email but your internal skus don’t seem to be working. IE, I click the link in the email to pick a color, confirm the order and it leads to nothing.
2. I’d also like to know how much the Cloak weights. GizmoTX and others are correct, if it weighs too much it really won’t work for me either and I’ll simply be returning it.
ToxicKitty | 07/06/2010 2:26 PM
Are there any actual pictures of the final product, or just renderings?
pushthepulldoor | 07/06/2010 3:13 PM
Any updated photos? I just got my “log on and confirm your color” email, but I was really hoping to see more shots of the final products before making my final choice.
jess | 07/06/2010 5:45 PM
Unfortunately, we don’t have updated photos just yet, but we’ll post them as soon as they’re available! In the meantime, we have some updated photo-realistic renders up for grabs on the product page.

Just for future learnings — maybe do not promise a ship date anymore. There’s a lot of anger out there over missed ship dates — I’d be more pessimistic in the future. Or, alternatively, update more frequently. This blog still hopes to ship by (now) last Friday (9th), where my confirmation of a black case is showing the 16th. Under-promise and over-deliver may make customers happier.
